The Irish Independent Release Liam Ó Maonlaí’s and NEW AIRS arrangement of Worry Not
May 2017

Irish rock and folk music legend Liam Ó Maonlaí joined NEW AIRS to perform Glen’s new arrangement of Liam’s song Worry Not. This special collaboration is the first time New Airs is joined by the original writer of the songs. It was recorded live in All Hallows Church Dublin and the video is described The Irish Independent as ‘a beautiful, haunting version’

Worry Not is performed by Liam Ó Maonlaí (Vocals and piano) Rachel Voloczi (Vocals), Orla Ní Bhraoin (Violin), Adele Johnson (Viola), Martin Johnson (Cello), Rónán Scarlett (Percussion) electronics are performed by Glen.

Released exclusively by The Irish Independent the arrangement is described ‘spellbinding’. All Of The Stars is performed by Rachel Voloczi (Vocals), Adrian Mantu (Cello) Andreea Banciu (Viola) and the electronics are performed by Glen.

Hot Press magazine featured Glen Austin’s NEW AIRS version of the Thin Lizzy hit and called it a ‘brilliant interpretation of the classic rock song’. Recorded live at Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin, the video was released on January 4th to make the anniversary of Phil Lynott’s passing. NEW AIRS recorded the Thin Lizzy hit live at Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin, it was released on January 4th to make the anniversary of Phil Lynott’s passing. The instrumental arrangement is written for string trio and percussion and Irish Cental’s article on the video remarks the ‘The results are just brilliant’ and the arrangement presents the classic song ‘as you’ve never heard it before’. The arrangement is performed by Orla Ní Bhraoin (Violin), Adele Johnson (Viola), Martin Johnson (Cello) and percussion by Rónán Scarlett.

The video is described The Irish Independent as featuring ‘stunning vocals and instrumentals’ and NEW AIRS vocalist Rachel Voloczi ‘gives a spine-tingling rendition of the song. The Irish World reviews New Airs at The London Irish Centre’s Céad Festival
June 2016

New Airs performed for the first time in London as part of London Irish Centre’s Céad Festival a new weekend of Irish Arts in London. NEW AIRS featuring RTÉ Contempo Quartet performed in the headline concert with Liam O’Maonlaí (Hothouse Flowers), John Spillane, Ronan O’Snodaigh (KILA).

”Glen is a wizard on the electronic keyboard and for this event orchestrated a captivating programme of new string quartet arrangements of Irish rock and pop classics. The New Airs show received its first performance of 2016 as it launched the Unison Pop Up Theatre at Borris Vocation School. Music Generation Carlow Outstanding Young Musicians concert at St. Mary’s Church Carlow,
Sunday May 24th at 8pm

This concert sees the premiere of the piece ‘Relive Every Memory’ which was written by Glen and the Transition Year Composition Students of Borris Vocational School. Glen has been working as composer in residence with Music Generation Carlow where he has been mentoring student composers as they create and write a new piece.
‘Relive Every Memory’ is written for choir and small orchestra and it will be premiered by the students of Borris Vocation School.

Glen’s music will feature in DIT Graduates production of Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales.

The production is a modern take on Chaucer’s classic featuring stories of romance, realism, and outrageous humor. Peter McDermott directs the production which features original settings of Chaucer’s songs composed and produced by Glen in addition to incidental and atmospheric music which sets the scene for each of the featured stories.

Educational DVD Release which features Glen’s Music

Glen’s music will feature on a selection of educational DVDS published by German education company Cornelsen Schulverlage GmbH. These DVDs will be released across Germany in May and they will feature short dramas which are used as a learning aid for high school children who are learning English as a second language. Glen has composed, produced and recorded the title music for these mini dramas.

The Mountain Ash in Connemara cd Launch. The RTÉ ConTempo Quartet perform Glen’s music at Writer’s Week Listowel in The Listowel Arms Hotel on Thursday May 29th at 6PM

The Mountain Ash in Connemara album is a collaboration between Glen and the Irish poet Joan McBreen. The CD features a selection of Glen’s original compositions and arrangements of traditional Irish airs for string quartet which were recorded by RTÉ ConTempo Quartet.  The album will be released at a celebration concert byRTÉ ConTempo Quartetduring Writers’ Week Listowel on Thursday May 29th at 6pm in The Listowel Arms Hotel, County Kerry. The RTÉ ConTempo Quartet will première some of Glen’s arrangements and original pieces from the CD and there will also be some performances by the great Irish singer Noel O’Grady. The concert will also feature Joan McBreen who will give readings of her poetry from the cd.

The Cross Timbers Flute Choir perform Glen’s piece Silverlight at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, during the 37th Annual Texas Flute Festival.

The Cross Timbers Flute Choir directed by Brittany Delavergne will perform the second and third movement of Glen’s piece Silverlight at the 37th Annual Texas Flute Festival. The performance will be on  May 17, at 2:30 p.m. in the Voertman Hall Lobby at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. Silverlight was written by Glen in 2013 for Irish flute choir Flute Éire and it received its premiere at the American National Flute Association’s 2013 Annual Convention in New Orleans Louisiana.
